Texas Architects Committee (TAC) is a non-profit and unincorporated political action organization of Texas architects. The purpose of TAC is to promote the interest of the registered architects in Texas and to raise funds for this purpose, and from such funds to make campaign contributions to those seeking election or re-election to political offices. Contributions are made without regard to party affiliation to those candidates who are believed to be deserving of such support. For more about specific activities and positions of TAC see the Advocacy section of the website.
TAC reports to the Texas Ethics Commission
. TSA's Executive Vice President, David Lancaster, Hon. AIA, serves as TAC Campaign Treasurer. The management of TAC is vested in six Executive Trustees elected by the board of directors of Texas Society of Architects. Executive Trustees coordinate the campaign to raise funds for TAC and determine the political candidates who receive TAC contributions.
Depending on the number of chapter members, each chapter is represented in TAC by one to four Advisory Trustees. Responsibilities of Advisory Trustees include coordinating TAC fundraising within the chapters, providing Executive Trustees with an assessment of candidates for public office from chapter areas, assisting with delivery of TAC contributions to political candidates, and attending TAC Executive Trustee and Advisory Trustee meetings.
TAC delivers contributions to selected candidates, as well as provides information about issues affecting the practice of architecture in Texas to both members and legislators. These can include issues relating to proposals to standardize architectural plans for schools across the state, a professional services tax, and qualifications-based selection. Every year, each of the 17 chapters sets a contribution goal; the total of these goals is TAC's overall contribution goal. In 2007, TAC achieved 81 percent of it's contribution goal, receiving $154,691 from 790 TSA members and other supporters. Seven chapters (Abilene, Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Fort Worth, Southeast Texas, West Texas and Wichita Falls) met or exceeded their local goal.
Any amount of contribution is welcomed and put to good use. Contributors of $100 or more qualify as members of the Century, Silver Century, Gold Century, and Platinum Century clubs who receive recognition in CheckSet, TSA's newsletter. These levels of giving are:
$100-249: Century Club Member
$250-499: Silver Century Club Member
$500-999: Gold Century Club Member
$1,000 or more: Platinum Century Club Member
